A few words from Trish Suhr and Dave McCoulWe are so proud to bring you The Stowaway Bride and we hope that we help you achieve your dream destination wedding, from two brides that have been there and done that and want you to learn from our hits and misses. We are honest to a fault, and we can’t wait to help you make your destination wedding dreams come true!!
The Stowaway Bride was born at a swim up pool bar in Cancun…No really, I’m dead serious…My husband and I were on our 1 year anniversary trip to the property that we got married at in Cancun…I was flopped out on a lounge chair readin’ a book (it was Tina Fey’s BossyPants ) which is hilarious and I was snort laughing it was so funny…coincidently, my husband gets highly embarrassed when I snort laugh especially in public…so he went to the swim up bar to escape my Tina Fey induced fit…it was all the way at the other end of the pool, which on vacation seems like miles…so I didn’t realize that he’d been gone for an hour…hey it’s a REALLY good book! The next thing I know he’s screaming at me from across the pool “babe come here!” I see that he’s talking to a couple at the bar…ahhh crap! I don’t like meeting people on vacation…they want to talk about where they live, what they do, I truly don’t care… no offense…I care 110% when I’m home, for cornsakes, Its what I do for a livin’ I love caring about others! I just want to think about NOTHING when I’m on vacation…SO, against my better judgement I swam across the pool to the swim up bar to my husband and an adorable couple that were at the resort on their honeymoon they’d just gotten married on Isla Mujeres the week before…. “Honey”, my husband said “Meet Liz & Chris”….honestly, from the second I met the both of them I felt like we’d all been friends for our whole lives…and I’m not that girl, it takes me a minute to see what you’re all about…but with Liz & Chris My husband & I were havin’ so much fun I forgot all about my awesome book and my anniversary trip! AND more importantly “I don’t make vacation friends” Rule…So for the next 5 days we hung out with them and they showed us their version of Mexico and we showed them ours…and here we are now with great friends that I swear the Universe plotted to bring us together…honestly Liz and were separated at birth (OK, with a slight age difference…) and Chris & my husband get along like gang busters! SO, Liz and I realized, after having LARGE amounts of wine (more specifically pinot noir) that we both have the same dream which is helping couples who have a passion for travel and adventure…AND helping every woman get to be The Stowaway Bride she deserves to be…
And then some from Chris and Liz SparlingWhere in the world do we begin? Well, as Trish mentioned, Cancun, Mexico is probably a good start. Honeymooning after our destination wedding in Isla Mujeres, Mexico we were at the pool bar at LeBlanc Resort and Spa when we met Trish and Dave for the first time. Soaking up sun, coconut water, and tequila (and acting like drunk trolls under the bridge at the pool…but that’s another story), we were about to become great friends, sharing the same philosophy on life: to become professional people of leisure, where beach bum living is the way to be. Trish and Dave seem like old friends we’ve known our whole lives, and now we have the two of them to share in our passion for life.
More and more brides and grooms are turning to romantic, steamy, and exotic locales to exchange nuptials these days. And who can blame them? The very people behind this site have all done it. And we wouldn’t have had it any other way. But as we get together and recount our destination planning days, we all seem to agree on one thing: the planning scene for destination weddings is atrocious. Use a search engine to find decent wedding vendors thousands of miles away from you and you might as well throw a dart onto a map and pick one at random. Then pray they work out. Or you can take your hotel planner’s recommendations. Or even use those wedding site forums, first sifting through the sea of local and domestic wedding information to find only a few brides talking about specific vendors and locations. It’s a mess.
But now we’re here for you. We’re here to reveal the best of real destination wedding inspiration, unbiased opinions and recommendations, and some of the most extensive planning and etiquette you’ve ever seen. And we’re not just talking about a few popular locations. We’re talking around the world. Yep, that’s correct, prepare for world domination. Right here.
I personally hope that you enjoy getting to know each one of us as you plan your wedding. I just know we’re going to be friends. And I truly believe that you’ll soon begin to see just how passionate we are about this stuff. Like I said, we’ve all been in your shoes. Now we have the inside scoop and some flippin’ ah-mazing vendors in our rolodex that we can’t wait to share with you! Happy Planning!
